What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I would have to say that I couldn't pinpoint any particular activity that I liked above the others. I really enjoyed almost everything I did, including Picasa web album, iGoogle, flowcharts, MSN calendar, and online processors.
How has this program affected your lifelong learning goals?
This program has affected my lifelong learning goals by showing me that with the internet, anything is possible. I literally learned so much doing this programs that I would have never known before.
Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
Yes, because of this program, I am now a member of so many online programs that I would have never been a part of. I think this is a great start to my education career and a great leg up on ideas.
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
I really liked this format because it was so user friendly. I enjoyed the links that were everywhere throughout the text. That made my job a lot easier.
How will what you have learned influence your practice as a teacher?
This will influence my practice as a teacher because I have all the knowledge that these websites can bestow on me.
How do you plan to keep up with new developments in web 2.0? Recommend a way that you have found to be useful.
I plan on keeping up with the new developments in web 2.0 by staying active in social networking and the new trends. If I continue to try new things and stay online, I think I will be fine. (Can't wait for Web 3.0!!)

43 Things
I looked for the original 23 things assignment from school library learning 2.0 and what I found was astounding. There are so many copies of the 23 things assignment out there! But from what I could gather, the original came from Stephen Abram's 43 Things I (or You) Might Want To Do This Year.
The version we are using definitely has all the correct credits and is abiding by the creative common rights law. Dr. Wall even cited Abram at the bottom of the 23 things website, giving us the link to his page that I took a screen shot of (above). (By the way, Dr. Wall THANK YOU for only giving us 23 of the 43 things!!)
Now that I know about the Creative Commons Copyright Law, I will be more careful when I am making lesson plans as an educator. I will always have to double check and make sure the ideas I am getting aren't copyrighted ideas.

Thing 22
Teacher Resources Binder
The binders I made were Teacher Resources, Education, and Future Fifth Grade. I made the Teacher Resources Public so that everyone can see it. I bookmarked several pages that have really great ideas on many teacher resources.
I found that this LiveBinder was pretty easy to use after you get use to it. After the intial set up and naming your binder, you can choose to make it pull websites off of google or not. I chose to do that with mine because it made it much easier. Also, if you don't like the websites, or they aren't what you were looking for you can easily delete them. I found more that I liked and wanted to keep than ones I wanted to get rid of.
Overall, I would say this is a great resource to use in the classroom to stay organized. To be able to out all these different websites into one "binder" was extremely easy and convenient. Also, students can use these "binders" in a lesson plan to bookmark sites with good learning games or educational sites where they learn about whatever lesson I am teaching.

Prom Animoto Video
I made an account with Animoto and was surprised at just how easy it was to make a 30 second video with pictures, text, and music. I chose not to add text (for the lack of not knowing what to say!) but I did add a different song from many that Animoto had to choose from!
I added pictures from my senior prom directly from Facebook, which was super convenient. I didn't have to upload single pictures one at a time. I'm sure this would be useful in the classroom environment for students learning advanced computer skills. I believe that 5th graders should be able to figure this website out and would find it cool to upload pictures and text to a video format. Only drawback is the 30 second time limit, but you can purchase more time if you want to.

No Child Left Behind Video
I have explored Youtube before, but only as recreational fun. I can say that as an educator, a dislike of Youtube is that there is too much stuff out there that students do NOT need to see! I would never suggest a student to research anything on Youtube without an attentive adult supervision. Saying that, I do think that if you SPECIFICALLY search for something, there are many educational videos available on Youtube. It is a good research method for teachers to use as a back up on whatever their lesson plans are covering.
The video that I researched was "No Child Left Behind [Document Film]" The whole No Child Left Behind is a very debatable subject that I find very interesting. This video is about a student teacher in New York who made a documentary about this act that George W Bush created and the pros and cons of it.
If I could suggest anything about Youtube that could be added to our library website, it would be to have videos on there. Even if it was a link to a Youtube video, it would be great to have everything in the same place and be able to click on a video that explains everything you are researching.

Thing 19
I am a member of Facebook and Twitter but had no idea how many other social networking sites are out there. I joined Teacherpop and found it really interesting. I like that you can share articles with other teachers and it is strictly for educators or future educators. I also really like that it has a tutitorial of Facebook for any of the teachers who might want to understand it better.
I also joined Tasty Kitchen because I love food blogs and enjoy cooking. I found a recipe that I really want to try and that was just from glancing over it. Yum! >>>>
Also, you can communicate with other people who have tried the recipe already and their advice on how to cook it.
I will use both of these social networking frequently, especially after I become a teacher and need advice or want to find interesting articles or if I want to find delicious new recipes!

Thing 18
It is important that educators know about social networking because it is becoming such a huge phenomenon. I know that people on Facebook are getting younger and younger and teachers could have students in their classrooms have a Facebook. Also, since cyber bullying is such a problem, understanding about how Facebook and Twitter works can give teachers a little edge up on understand their students.
I did not really gain new insights into these popular sites because I already have had a Twitter and Facebook for so long. I like that Facebook is easy to reconnect with friends you haven't seen in awhile, or friends who have moved away. I do not like that when you update your status, people know that you might not be home. (This is how my boyfriend got robbed) However, if you only add friends you trust and make your profile private, this should not be an issue. Twitter is a little more simple with only updates of statuses and mentions to deal with.
I do not see classroom or school applications that can be used with these sites. I see them as more of a recreational use and not for business. However, I think teachers being friends on Facebook and Twitter might be a good idea. This is just another media that teachers can communicate with to learn new ideas about classroom management and new ideas on lesson plans.

Thing 17
I joined Delicious and found it really easy to use. After the initial sign up, you can bookmark anything that might interest you online. It is all in one convenient place. I loved looking at stumbleupon.com. I thought that this was awesome and could spend hours looking at all of the websites that it brings me to! I also put many of these websites into my delicious account!! I looked at education sites that it would randomly bring me to and I found an awesome study cycle that I screen shot so you can see. This is just one of the many amazing things on this website!
I do not see the potential in using this in the classroom with my students. I do not think that they will have the time to surf the web like I did. However, I do think that it is a excellent tool for educators to use to get fresh and interesting ideas for their classrooms!

Thing 16
The start page that I picked was iGoogle. I really love everything google so far, so I figured this would be the same. I was right. It is awesome. I picked the things I am interested in, including art, cooking, and games. It found my location and my home page had the weather and on the side bar it has articles and websites that go along with the things I picked that interests me. How cool is that!? And yes I definitely made this my homepage! It is too cool not to be.
I checked out the MSN calendar. It seems really easy to use and helpful in the classroom environment. I can type on the calendar things that need to get done and print it out to keep on my desk and check off when completed.
I feel like the to-do list I tried (remember the milk) seemed like it would more hassle than help. It takes a while to sign up and then sign in and then create a new to-do list and then print it off. I would rather just write out a to-do list or if I wanted to be all high-tech with it, I could make a memo on my phone of it.
I would recommend the calendar and iGoogle to anyone who asked. I think iGoogle is cool because it is personalized and would be a good home page for school computers. Also the calendar is good for anyone who wants to stay organized in the classroom.

Thing 15
I found it very confusing on how to edit the wiki on APSU 23 things. I made an account and then it wouldn't let me sign in! However, I think it would be easy to edit or add something to that account if it would ever let me log in!
I explored several wiki's and found that one I would really like is the BookLoversWiki. I love love love to read and would likw to get reviews about books before I read them. So this wiki is really cool to check out and see who has read anything I want to read.
Another one I found interesting was the teacherlibriarinwiki. This is a wiki where teachers can go to share and edit ideas from other teachers. It is really great to have things like this at our disposal. I can get opinions and great ideas for my classroom and classroom management.

Thing 14
The flowchart I tried was Gliffy. Before this assignment, I never really understood what a flowchart was. Now I know how easy it is to use and how fun it can be. I chose to make a floor plan when I was exploring it. I have never seen how to make a floor plan before on Word or anything like word and was surprised by how easy it was to change dimensions and where walls should go. It would be really good to use if planning on building your own house. But there are lots of other things you can do with a flowchart including website, Venn diagrams (great for comparing and contrasting lessons in the classrooms), actual flowcharts (also good for directional use on wall), and business processes. This is definitely something I will use in the classroom.
The mind map is a really good tool to use when brainstorming. It is nothing like a flowchart but I can see how helpful it can be. You start with one bubble and write what your first thought is and tab over for a new bubble and continue with your brainstorming.

Thing 13
I experimented with Zoho Writer and found out just how cool it is! It is very similar to a Word document, but better. You can do everything to a Zoho document that you can do to a Word document, but what makes it so cool is that it is an online document holder. This means that you can access it from any computer you are signed in on. This will be cool for when I'm a teacher and want to write a letter home to my student's parents and need to finish it at home on my own computer.
Letter to Parents on Google Docs
After playing with Google Docs, I think this is my favorite online document processors. You can save it to an online processor, like Zoho, but this one you can easily put in equations (really great for making your own math worksheets) and drawing shapes is easy to do on this site.
My students can easily use Google Docs because it is user friendly. They can use their imagination to complete any assignment that I may give them. This can help them with their computer and typing skills as well.

It's amazing to me how far Google has come. I can't tell you how many times a day I "googled" something to find an answer or a website. It really is the most popular search engine that I know of. Now it has so many other cool features to it!
I experimented with Google Translator and I really liked it. It actually translates as you type in English to whatever language you want. I can see how that would be really useful to a Spanish teacher in high school.
I also made a Picasa Web Album. It is really similar to Flickr. But I like it a little better because you can click and drag pictures straight into the upload box. It super easy and a lot faster. It would be a good feature for the classroom for sharing images and creating fun projects for the students.

I found that using the google blogger search was the easiest method of finding RSS feeds. It helps if you already know what you want to find though. I found that Technorati was pretty easy to use. I liked that it showed a variety of articles on it's homepage. By searching for key words you can narrow the results down and read the title and first few sentences without opening it to see if you want to open and read it.
I also found that the Topix.net was a little complicated to use. You need to know a tag word to start searching. I used "classroom". This was a little too broad of a topic I think. It showed me hundreds of topics and just made it difficult to find anything useful in all the "fluff".
I can see how these blogs would be useful as an educator for when I want to get good ideas for my classroom and lesson plans.

Thing 10
On my google reader page, I subscribed to Pioneer Woman, Cool Cat Teacher, Squidoo: Funny blog, For the Love of Cooking, and Cooking with Amy. I thought this was a really neat feature. I subscribed to several cooking blogs because I was browsing and saw so many awesome recipes that I would love to try. Instead of having to go to all of those different blog sites to check for new things, they come to you! It's so convenient.
Using this technology after I become a teacher will be helpful. I will probably start subscribing to more blogs written by teachers. This will be helpful when I have questions about issues in the classroom or with certain students.
I chose not to make a public page because I don't think my blog is interesting enough for people to follow!

Phineas, a photo by sfelts4 on Flickr.
Flickr is a very simple site to use to upload photos. It's cool because you can share it with anyone, no matter what computer you are on. Using this in a classroom could be useful. I could upload pictures for a lesson or decorations for my classroom and look them up from any computer I am on. I have used Photobucket as another photo hosting service. It is very similar to Flickr, except is is a little slower and you can't share pictures with anyone who doesn't already have your password. I feel that having my pictures online is not a big deal, so long as I don't upload anything too personal or of people that do not want their pictures online. If there was a concern with my pictures being public, I could always make them private to where only I can see them.

The first image is from the first link. It is a website where you plug your picture in a background image that you can choose. I chose the stadium one, but there were many others to choose from. The second is a header that I put my name into. I got it from the second link.
I could use this header image website in my future classroom to make my newsletters have some color and flair. There were so many cool links to choose from that would be beneficial in the classroom. Using these with my students could be a cool addition to powerpoint slides and a funny relief.

The above is a link to a slideshow I made of some of the images I uploaded to Flickr. It was really simple to use and very convenient. Flickr mashups could be used in my classrooms by taking pictures of all of my students and making cool collages with their pictures for my classroom. I feel that sharing pictures online is fine, as long as you are safe while doing it. If I ever uploaded pictures of my future students, I would make sure to have parent permission and to make my Flickr account private.

The website I picked to explore was Skype. This is a free site where you can sign up on your computer to video chat friends and family. Disclaimer: you do need to have a web cam for this! I loved this site. I signed up and tested it with some friends who already had a skype. I could chat face to face with them in real time. It was such a unique way to communicate instead of the overused texting and phone calls. You can also instant message while you are skyping your friends. If you can't talk for some reason, like you are in the library, you can just type what you want to say, and it will instantly send it to them. The only thing I disliked about this site was sometimes it would freeze up. It didn't happen often, but I guess you have to have a very strong internet connection.
Skype could be used in school and library setting by an online teacher with his or her students. Having a conversation with someone face to face is easier then emails back and forth. It is also more personal and makes the student feel better about what they are learning.

Web 2.0 comes from the internet becoming easier to use and more accessible. According to one of the Web 2.0 articles, Web 2.0 can include social networking site, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, web applications, mashups and more. People are using the internet more often now than ever. Another article said Web 2.0 has replaced several things including the yellow book, the mail system, and many others. It's crazy to think that so many important things can be replaced with the Internet!
Social networking is a crazy popular Web 2.0 trend. Almost everyone I know has a facebook and many have a twitter. Social networking is a way to stay in touch with friends and family that you don't see everyday. It has been a huge contribution to Web 2.0 and will continue to grow.
School 2.0, to me, means that the school system has more technology advances then ever. Technology is a way of life in the classrooms. More and more teachers are using smart boards and computer games as part of their everyday learning activities. Students love these advances and it helps them with computer skills they will need for life.
Schools in the future will do nothing but benefit from the advances in technology in "School 2.0". I hope that technology keeps on advancing and becomes Web 3.0, 4.o, etc. I would love to teach in an advanced classroom. Having technology makes it easier on the teacher and more fun for the students.

Thing 4
Commenting is important in blogging. It creates a sense of community and interaction by receiving feedback for your ideas and thoughts. Commenting in blogs is very similar to holding a conversation in person. You wouldn't want to be the only person talking, so why should you be the only person blogging on a certain topic. Blogging helps put your personal thoughts and opinions out in the world wide web so interaction is key. By doing this, you are exposing a part of yourself. Many people need reassurance that what they are saying is right or okay. Any kind of commenting is good, whether a reassuring review, or a disappointed viewer. Just having the feedback is welcome.
A point from the article "Cool Cat Teacher Blog" that I agree with was having something meaningful to say when you comment. I completely agree with that. The worst kind of commenting is when people just agree with everything you say in one of two words. When you write something, or have a conversation for that matter, you want more to go on then just a few words of agreement. By asking questions and telling opinions, the blog becomes more interesting for everyone.
Another point from the articles that I agreed with was from "Your comments?". I agree that writers like to be reassured that they are being read. Also, making your comment heartfelt is important. He states that if you receive a comment on your blog, you should thank each person.
The five blogs I chose from our group were:
Kelsey Gardner
I commented on Kelsey's blog because I loved the picture she put in her Thing 7 blog. I clicked on the link and read the caption underneath the picture and found it really interesting.
Evelyn Estes
I commented on Evelyn's post on Thing 8. She uploaded a flickr mashup that was her name. I told her that she missed out the V in her name, but it was okay because we still get how cool it would be. I told her that these awesome flickr techniques would be really useful in future power point slides for lesson plans.
Christy Colby
I commented on Christy's blog about cyber bullying. I know how bad of a problem this can be especially since the internet is such a big part of our everyday lives.
Tammy Seeber
I commented on Tammy's Thing 3 blog post. I just expressed my opinion about blogs and their function in society today.
Kelsie Penick
I commented on Kelsie's Thing 9 blog post. She had a lot of interesting pictures, so it caught my attention. I let her know that her post gave me some ideas for the future.
Rebecca Riels
I commented on Rebecca's Thing 7 from 3040-34. I really liked her Flickr picture she chose and I wanted to tell her so. I also agree with her post that she could spend forever on Flickr and not get tired of it. It is just such a cool website!
Er'nyce Smith
I commented on Er'nyce's Thing 6 post from 3040-34. I just told her how much I enjoy Pandora! I answered some of the questions she had listed in her blog as well.
I commented on Pioneer Woman's blog about how to make banana foster. I was just complimenting her on all the stunning pictures and easy to follow directions.
Pioneer Woman
I also commented on another cooking site, "For the Love of Cooking" about a particular dish I would like to try to cook.

Thing 3
There are many things you can do as an educator with a blog including things for your future classroom. I got several ideas from the links on the 23 things websites. You can share websites with students on things you are learning in the classroom that week. It could be learning games or information that goes along with the material along with class calenders and agendas. You could also discuss teacher-training experiences and what worked and what didn't. You can give other teachers some teaching tips or cool ideas for their classrooms. Also talking about learning issues and some solutions to these problems. This is a good one to do when other, more experienced teachers are reading your blog and can give you some feedback on their knowledge from personal experience.
There is so much you can do with a blog as a teacher, the possibilities are endless. A blog can be a very useful technology tool in the classroom that many people would not think about.

Thing 2
I decided to have my blogger posting name the same as my real name. I didn't want to use an alias in this because it is an assignment and I didn't want there to be any confusion. The name of my blog is just my full name. This really has no meaning, I just wanted something easy to remember.
I had a pretty good experience with creating my blog. I have never done anything like this before. But by following the directions on the 23 Things website, it was really easy to do.
My avatar does reflect my personality because I made her look like me. She has my hair and eye color and is wearing my favorite color. I decided to make my avatar look like me since I am using my real name and my blog is named after me. If I had used an alias name I would have made an alias avatar.

Thing 1
I believe the old saying, you learn something new everyday. Lifelong learning is pretty simple in concept. It's saying that you never need to give up on doing something new or something out of your comfort zone. I completely agree with that. The habit I think would be the easiest for me to relate to would be to make a goal. I make goals for myself all the time, such as making good grades, losing weight, and saving money. Another easy habit would be that attitude is everything. I definitely agree that having a good attitude about a bad situation makes it so much easier to deal with. It takes so much more energy to be mad/sad then it does to be happy!
A habit that I would find the hardest would be to have confidence in myself. I know that having confidence is a very important aspect in success and to be a great teacher I need to have better confidence. It is something I can do (maybe with a goal!) but I think it will take harder work than the rest of the habits.
Lifelong learning is something we all should aspire to have. You never want life to be dull and learning new things will keep it exciting!
